Paying by cryptocurrency

We accept cryptocurrency for hosting, and plenty of our customers prefer it. Here is how it works with us, what to watch for, and the few things crypto does not change about an invoice.

Cryptocurrency is a normal way to pay us, not a special case. If you would rather settle in crypto than by card or transfer, you can — and the service you get is identical. A few practical things are worth knowing up front.

How it maps to an invoice

An invoice is denominated in a normal currency; the crypto amount is calculated at the time of payment from the current rate. Because rates move, a quote is valid for a short window — pay within it and the amount holds; wait and it is recalculated. This is why a crypto payment references a specific invoice and amount rather than an open address.

Confirmations take a little time

A crypto payment is settled once the network confirms it, which takes from minutes to longer depending on the coin and the fee you set. We mark an invoice paid on confirmation, so for a time-sensitive order, send it with an adequate fee rather than the minimum — a cheap, slow transaction can leave an order waiting.

Pay the exact amount

Send the amount on the invoice, net of any network fees on your side — if a fee is deducted from the amount, the payment arrives short and the invoice is only part-paid. Underpayments have to be topped up, which is slower for everyone. Account for the fee so the full amount lands.

Refunds and credit

Because rates move, a refund is handled as account credit or at the value received, not as a guarantee of the same number of coins back — the coin you paid may be worth more or less by refund time. If this matters for a particular order, ask us first. See invoices, payment and cancellation.

The accounting is still ordinary

Paying in crypto does not change VAT, the invoice, or the records — see VAT and cross-border invoicing. You still receive a proper invoice in a normal currency for your books; the coin is just how it was settled. See also ways to pay.
